I’m Riddhi Deshpande (coincidentally pronounced “read-ee”), based near Toronto, Canada. I’ve been constantly inspired by the kids I spent years teaching art classes to (who also served as the perfect critics). Growing up with a perfect balance of my Indian background, and North American upbringing, allowed me to experience eastern and western cultures and bring both influences into my work. I draw inspiration from India, incorporating the vibrant colours and patterns that make up so much of my childhood memories of the culture. Living near such a diverse metropolitan city like Toronto also allows me to create illustrations that are as inclusive as possible.

My life is constantly full of stories, and I spend my free time collecting special editions of YA novels, comedically narrating my birds’ antics, and flipping through old scrapbooks. I find meaning in every life experience, and often base my work off of them, whether it’s silly classroom memories, or a 7 year orthodontic “adventure”.

Overall, I strive to create enchanting experiences for the young, and young at heart. Illustrating, to me, is like going on a playful adventure, and I approach every project with the same sense of curiosity and enthusiasm.
